For the full Genesis experience, I recommend disabling polyphony and adding a bit of harmonic distortion and bit crusher. Therefore, they sound cleaner, but different from what the games output. Note: Please note that those are the extracted sample file from the rom itself, and not a recording. These are the sounds: 1 Kick (Sonic 1 &2), 1 Snare (Sonic 1 &2), 5 Timpani (Sonic 1 &2), 1 Clap (Sonic 2 only), 1 Scratch (Sonic 2 only), 4 Tom (Sonic 2 only), 4 Bongo (Sonic 2 only). So, there was one Timpani samples, but you'll have 5 different sounds from it (with adjusted sample rate). I also used the game original pitches stored in the cartridge. Sonic 2 used the same samples as Sonic 1 and added 4 more (Clap, Scratch, Tom, Bongo). They are compressed as headerless 4-bit DPCM file. Sonic 1 used 3 sound samples to use as drums (Kick, Snare, Timpani).
For the first time you can play with the original sound before being played/disorted/destroyed by the bad sound driver. It can also feature music that is not heard anywhere else in the game. The Sound Test is an in-game jukebox that contains various audio tracks ranging from background music, sound effects and voice tracks of that game. It is a feature where the player is able to listen to most music and sound effects from the game. They now are conformed to 44.1khz/16bit and have been declipped. The Sound Test is a subject that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog video games. I created this soundfonts (SF2) with the original samples directly extracted from the Sonic 1 & 2 roms (and not recorded from the console audio output).
